ALL Volunteers can expect to:

  • Be greeted when they arrive at their volunteer location and feel welcomed
  • Be introduced to staff and other volunteers
  • Be provided with essential safety instructions
  • Be given thorough instructions on projects and responsibilities
  • Be informed about the history of Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana
  • Be treated with respect
  • Be informed on upcoming projects and other volunteer opportunities
  • Be appreciated for their hours of service
  • Understand fully how Habitat depends on volunteers to accomplish projects and tasks
  • Work with a manager that is fully prepared for the work day
  • Have an increased sense of purpose, understanding that they are helping give back to their communities
  • Offered a safe and positive work environment

 

 

IN ADDITION

 

Volunteers at the ReStore can expect to:

 

  • Be given an orientation (which includes a tour, meet and greet the staff, given a volunteer expectation form to be signed and provided with a name badge)
  • Have a complete understanding of volunteer expectations
  • Be given direct instructions on ReStore tasks and responsibilities by supervisor
  • Receive a lunch break if you are committed to a full day shift
  • Receive a “thank you” card to all first time volunteers

 

Volunteers at a construction site can expect to:

 

  • Be given a name badge
  • Have prayer in the beginning of the day
  • Be given directions to the bathroom
  • Be equipped with safety goggles and other safety equipment
  • Receive any additional training necessary for the project
  • Receive information about the partner family
  • Receive information (via-email) the “week of” pertaining to projects
  • Receive lunch
  • Be sent a “thank you” card to first time volunteers
  • Receive an invitation to the home dedication
