WHY Women Build?
95% of the families we serve are led by single moms with an average of 3 children.
Women are more likely to have low household incomes than men due to the wage gap, occupational segregation and unequal caregiving burdens, among other factors.
On average, single women pay 2% MORE when buying a house and sell it for 2% less.
Women were paid 21.8% less on average than men in 2023, after controlling for race, ethnicity, education, age & geographic division.
An average Habitat home costs $170,000 to build. In order to help struggling, working families, we rely on our passionate supporters and donors to help us build homes.
Habitat for Humanity's annual Women Build initiative is a platform to recruit, educate, and inspire women to build, fundraise, and advocate for stable and affordable homes in our communities. Women Build teams from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities.
BECOME A WOMEN BUILD TEAM LEADER!
Women Build Team Leaders commit to maximizing their impact on the lives of female led Habitat homebuyers by effectively mobilizing their networks. Our Leaders and their teams will join us on the build site and use their platforms to share Habitat’s mission. No construction experience is needed but all participants must be at least 18 yrs of age.
Team Leaders are asked to:
- Sets a fundraising goal of at least $2,500
- Reaches goal by the end of their team's volunteer date
- Recruits Women Build volunteers and potential sponsors
- Sets up a fundraising page through HFHNWI
- Volunteers for at least one Women Build construction shift by eom October 2024
- Promotes Women Build through social media
- Allows Habitat to utilize their name and photo for promotional purposes
All proceeds go to purchasing construction materials for a home on the HFHNWI construction schedule.
